Is the tax on your payslip right? Enter your gross pay and the tax withheld, and we’ll compare it with the ATO’s own withholding formula for 2026–27.

If this pay is typical, over a year about $16,172 is withheld against an estimated $16,121 tax on $80,002. Small gaps even out in your tax return, and the low income tax offset is only applied there.

Good to know

Employers work out tax on each pay with the ATO’s Schedule 1 formulas. This checker uses the same formulas and coefficients the ATO published for pays from 1 July 2026, and matches the ATO’s own sample figures to the dollar.

Only claim the tax-free threshold from one employer at a time. If you claim it from two jobs, too little tax is taken out and you may owe tax when you lodge your return.

Tax withheld is an estimate made each pay. Your actual tax is worked out when you lodge your tax return, which is when offsets such as the low income tax offset are applied.
